Italy: Health Minister Approves DIY Abortion Drug

Italy’s health minister Roberto Speranza has announced a new policy permitting abortion drugs to be used at home. The new policy designates the abortion-inducing pill mifepristone for outpatient use during the first nine weeks of pregnancy. Previous policy required women to be admitted into the hospital for drug-induced abortions. Conservative legislator Giorgia Meloni condemned the policy, saying women will be denied needed medical and psychological care and instead have to “experience a difficult and dangerous procedure in solitude.”
